So I’ve graduated, what’s next?

FILED IN: Personal

Ever since I was little, I was never that person who knew exactly what they wanted to do when they grew up. I honestly never had an answer. However, I come from a family of entrepreneurs and business owners. My Grandpa and his brother started their boat dealership, Bay Marine, in 1972, and then in 1994 (right before I was born), my parents bought into the business. And they have been doing that ever since! I think when you grow up with parents that own their own business, you never really want to work for other people. You see how much of their time and effort that they put in day after day to be as successful as possible, and it’s so inspiring. And although I never knew what I wanted to do with my life, I knew that no matter what, I was going to own my own business at some point in time.

My sophomore year in high school I got my first ever DSLR camera. I didn’t know how to do anything on it except for put it in automatic and take random pictures, but I loved it. I played around with it every now and then, but once I taught myself how to shoot in Manual I was hooked. My freshman year in college my friend Shelby really pushed me to pursue photography, and I guess as they say the rest is history!

It’s almost been three weeks since I have graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Entrepreneurship and Family Business. And it’s crazy to think how much has changed in that short of a time. Since then I have packed up my apartment that was my home for the past two years, said goodbye (for now) to some of my best friends, and moved back to Atlanta. And now, I can fully devote my attention to pursuing photography full time. That has been my dream and my goal for the past couple of years, and I couldn’t be more excited!

So what now? Right now I am really just trying to get my life in order. There are so many little things that I have to do to fully get my business up and running (things that I didn’t have time to focus on during school). I am currently working on a completely new rebranding for Sydney Bruton Photography (yay!!) so be on the lookout for that! And I’m sure there’s going to be a million other things that pop up that I need to do that I can’t think of right now, so finding a really good way for me to stay organized is on the top of my priority list 🙂

I am so thankful to have to have the most loving and supportive parents and family. Allowing me to come back home and get my feet under me is such a blessing and I could never thank them enough for everything that they do. And on top of being the most amazing people, they also gave me the best graduation gift I could ever ask for. Canon has not announced the date to the public yet, but they will be releasing the 5D Mark IV camera sometime within the next couple of months and I will be getting in when they do!!!!! OH MY GOSH!!! Tears seriously formed in my eyes as I screamed like a little girl when my parents told me that’s what they were getting me.

So for now, I’m just taking things one day at a time and feeling so humbled by the fact that I get to do what I love every single day. I’m also doing a lot of praying and trusting in God to lead me in the right direction. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has loved and supported me along the way, and especially to everyone who modeled for me when I was trying to learn how to take pictures 🙂

I love y’all!

xoxo, Syd
